♥ Explosion averted...

On Saturday evening our water heater bit the dust. Joe looked at it briefly and tried to get it lit before he left for work but it wouldn't go so on Sunday morning after he got home he started taking stuff apart and trying to figure it out. Finally after a phone call to my brother, Joe's brother, Joe's brother's friend and finally to GE service dept we have it figured out. The GE person had Joe check out a list of things that could be wrong and finally on the 4th call to them they found that the big safety switch at the back of the tank had snapped. Which is good because without this safety device our house would have blown up! Scary... Anyway GE is replacing our water heater for FREE! I'm so grateful especially since I wasn't really looking forward to spending 500 plus bucks on a new one.
However when the time does come that we have to purchase a new one I'm thinking that one of these baby's is the way to go! Not necessarily GE but a tankless water heater for sure! So small compared to a tank and saves 50% on utility costs...

We skipped church... Terrible I know... but finally by 2:00pm I had everyone bathed and ready for the day. Just in time for naps... washed my hair with ice cold water and then did Emma's she cried at the end it was so cold. Then Eliza wanted me to do hers in the freezing cold. I asked her why when she just saw that Emma was crying because it was so cold? So I washed hers and she did really well until the very very end and she started crying. Then Lane decides that he wants to do it too, so I ask the same thing, "Did you not just see Emma and Eliza both cry?" He insisted that he could do it... Which he did but he doesn't have much hair so it was very fast. No crying for him. Then Olivia wants to do it... No dang way was I going to let her. She's the most finicky of all my kids so I knew she'd never get through it! So I heated water up on the stove washed her hair and then bathed them all (not at the same time, mind you!) with warmed water and a pitcher. Of course Emma was last, poor Emma. I ran out of warm water at the very end and didn't want to heat up more just for a quick rinsing so I used the ice cold water... she did just fine but she was laughing and shivering a bit saying "This is TORTURE!" She cracks me up. Anyway everyone is clean at least and today we're supposed to take the old water heater to Home Depot and pick up a new one. Joe already has it loaded and ready to go! I don't know how they used to do it without running water and water heaters.

well none of that sounds very fun to me either.
At least you get a new one for free (I love Free)
I have no idea how the pioneers made it with out running water & water heaters either.
I guess that's why I was born now & not then I would never have survived!

Well I am glad that you are getting a new one for free, or exchange or whatever. That must have been some crazy cod water to make them cry. Kids though that is so typical that even though they saw someone else cry they would then want to do it. Wow.

oh man that sounds cold!!!!! I wouldn't want to do that, that's for sure!

My parents have a tankless hot water heater and it works really good - if only one person is using it at a time, otherwise it's cold water - and on sunday mornings that sucked peanut butter!!! But David said my parents is a small one so you could get a big one and probably be okay. But free is even better!

Your tough getting everyone bathed like that.I am exhausted doing it with warm water. I am sure glad it did not explode and that it will be replaced for free. We got a new one last year, not fun at all. But it works SO much better.

That's one of those days you wished you lived close to family and could use their showers! Poor kids. Kudos to them for braving the cold- I hate cold water!
