I had my first day of Subbing at the school yesterday. I was in the 1st grade all day. If I said that it was FUN that would a huge LIE... however as much respect and admiration that I already had for teachers the day before yesterday has now increased by at least 100 times!!! I don't know how they do it every day all day! That 3 month summer break must be pure bliss for them! I actually taught Lane's class and it was fun to see him in the school setting. By about 11:00 am I had hit may daily 50,000 word limit! You know they say that men have about a 25,000 word limit a day... but we easily double that.
This is seriously what I felt like!!!
Anyway I was tired of talking and my throat hurt. I can't tell you how grateful I was when it was time for P.E. and recess. Just so I wouldn't have to talk! My favorite part of the day was our science project where the kids learned that the sun is the center of the universe. We went outside and I had one child hold a picture of the sun and hold still. Then there was a child with a picture of the earth and they would walk in a circle around the sun and another child with a picture of the moon moving around the earth. The kids LOVED it! They giggled and laughed and actually GOT IT!!! It was so awesome to hear their explanations and understanding of what we covered!
So today I was a little nervous to go into the 3rd grade not knowing what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to realize that I actually enjoyed it! I think I enjoyed the fact that the kids stayed on task much easier than my little first graders did and I didn't have to constantly TALK!!! I stayed with the 3rd graders for 1/2 the day and then went over to teach a 1/2 day for the Kindergartners. They were pretty good. Almost better than the 1st graders although that could be for the simple fact that I was only there for 1/2 the day instead of the whole day. We did an apple tasting "science" project and the kids loved it. It was so fun to see their excited little faces while they tried to explain how they felt about each apple slice. Their descriptions were so cute. They were so excited as they said how juicy, sweet and sour they were. They were so good! Then they chose which apple was their favorite and they got to color an apple and put it on a graph to see which was the most liked of all the apples. Turns out sour granny smiths are the all time favorite for them!
Anyway today was a great day. My feet hurt but it was a great day! Yesterday I wore the WRONG shoes and my ankles were killing me. Today I wore some different shoes that don't make my ankles hurt but the balls of my feet are killing me now... I definitely need some more comfortable shoes! I can't wait to see where I'll go next!

You are one brave soul. I don't know if I could do that. Sounds interesting though.
when your home to cook, clean and all that moms do you are going to really appreciate that also!
that sounds great! we don't do that here but I wonder how it feels to do so.
my parents were both teachers, and I know how hard it was being a teacher. that's why I never wanted to be one. and yes, I do respect teachers, A LOT.
I didn't know you did that! Cool! They definitely keep you on your toes!
I never realized what a huge job the lower grades are until I had kids and started volunteering in the classroom.
I COULD not do it full time.
Hope the 3rd grade was easier?
I honestly don't know how you are subbing and running your home, sports, laundry and homework and thats just part of it! You are such an awesome Mom and person. Look at your attitude too. Good job!
